Spyhunter 4 Review – Hands On

One of the most annoying problems that can affect computer users these days is spyware and malware.  Different from viruses, these malicious software programs can masquerade as legitimate software and sneak past even the best antivirus software.  Spyhunter 4 is a program developed by Enigma Software Group designed to help people quickly find and remove malware from their computer.   But is this software safe?  Is it good?  I used it myself in order to get a sense of how the software works and whether or not I could recommend it.  Overall I found the software to be extremely safe, effective, and easy to use.

Our Experience

Interestingly enough I ended up needing a spyware removal software tool right around the time that I was scheduled to review Spyhunter 4.  My desktop PC which I usually use for video editing somehow became infected with the Conduit software which took over my browser and its settings and caused a lot of advertisements to pop up.  I didn’t know what else it had installed out of sight either.  I believe the software “piggybacked” along with a tool I had downloaded to help me unzip .rar compressed files.  Unfortunately this is how a lot of malware ends up on people’s computers.  It then bypasses the antivirus software.

I researched a bit about how to remove Conduit from my computer but the manual way seemed intensely complicated and it would have taken a few hours of my time.  Rather that go to that trouble I decided to see if Spyhunter 4 was any good—I had to review it anyway.

I downloaded and installed the software.  Everything was quick and easy.  Spyhunter has an easy to use interface, and anyone should be able to use it right away without needing to consult any manuals or help files.

spyhunter4conduitI ran the scan and it found Conduit immediately as well as a few other minor advertiser tracking cookies.  After the scan was complete I hit “Fix Threats” and let it run.

After about 5 minutes and a system restart, I found that my computer was free and clear of the very annoying Conduit software.  Overall it was an extremely easy to use and took mere minutes to solve my problem.

Other Features

Spyhunter 4 has a bunch of robust features that put it ahead of the game in the spyware war.  One of the unique features of the software is the proprietary rootkit detection.  Rootkits are a particularly difficult malware type that disguises itself as critical Windows system files.  They then become difficult or impossible to remove because Windows will mistakenly protect them.  You can’t get rid of them while Windows is running.

This software comes with a unique boot operating system that it can use if rootkit infections are detected.  The software will shut the computer down then boot into it’s own OS so it can then remove the malicious impostor files.

Spyhunter 4 is one of the only security software tools that enables you to remove rootkits. It comes with a secure bootable OS that the software uses in order to fix sensitive Windows files.

You can set Spyhunter 4 to do routine scans of your computer so you can stay on top of infections you might not know you have.  The only thing this software doesn’t have that we wish it did is live protection to stop malware before it gets on your PC.  Perhaps Enigma will add that feature in the future.

Customer Service And Support

Spyhunter also offers helpdesk support.  If for some reason Spyhunter can’t fix your system you can make an appointment for the helpdesk, where techs will create a personalized malware removal plan for your system.  This works by having Spyhunter create a diagnostic report which you can then send to Enigma, where they will work to solve your problem.

Conclusion

Spyhunter 4 seems to have a varied reputation on the internet, and I really couldn’t figure out why.  I did read a few comments from people who mistakenly thought the software was free (but nowhere does it say it’s free).  Those people then said the software was a “scam” which is quite an overreaction and very far from the truth.  Sorry folks—just because you have to buy something doesn’t mean it’s a scam.

Overall I found that Spyhunter was extremely useful and helpful software that worked great.  I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is having problems with a malware or spyware infection.
